Dwelling with God

Psalm 23:6 (NKJV) says, “My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.”

For centuries these words have brought comfort to the afflicted, peace to the grieving, strength to the weary, joy to the heartbroken, excitement to the cheerful.

So what can this Psalm teach us today?

SELAH (Pause, think, reflect)

We could spend hours dwelling on the richness found in these words. But at least in part, Psalm 23 teaches us that in worship, we are called to dwell with God. To remain with Him; to increasingly recognize his heart and character.

Whether in the green pastures by still waters or walking in the dark of deepest valleys, God is present. Even if enemies surround us, goodness and mercy still follow us closely.

This prayer of David teaches us that God is ever present, always in control, faithful to deliver, abundantly gracious and full of blessing… and because of that, we should worship.

PRAYER (Pray this out loud)

God, thank You for Your presence. Help me to trust in Your goodness and mercy, no matter the path I’m on. Draw me closer to You each day, and reveal more of Your heart to me as I worship you. Amen.

“We are called to dwell with God.”
