Guard Your Heart

Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

Sometimes we view the idea of guarding our hearts with a kind of defensive perspective—that we should avoid letting bad things in, and that is certainly a part of it, but what if guarding our hearts also meant protecting the good things God has put in there?

SELAH (Pause, think, reflect)

Have you kept watch over the dream God has given you, or have you allowed it to slowly disappear with time? Have you stored up the faithful promises of God in your heart or have you allowed circumstances to shape what you expect from Him?

We are not only called to be mindful of what enters our hearts—whether negativity, doubt, or even sinful desire—but we are also called to protect the good things God has placed in our hearts.

Guard your heart and be kind to yourself.

PRAYER (Pray this out loud)

Lord, I thank You for Your Word. Thank You that I can be encouraged by it and can apply it to my life. Help me guard my heart and give me wisdom to see what is most beneficial for my soul. Have my whole heart and use the life that flows from it. Amen.

“Guard your heart and be kind to yourself.”
