Offering Not An Atmosphere

What is your view of worship?

Is it one of singing songs to God or gathering in a church? Is it one of serving others? Maybe you’ve heard the often-said truth that worship isn’t just a moment, but a lifestyle… regardless of all these different depictions of worship, one thing is clear:

Worship should absolutely be costly because it’s not an atmosphere for us, it’s an offering from us.

SELAH (Pause, think, reflect)

There’s a well-known passage of Scripture in 2 Samuel where King David is offered the materials to make a sacrifice to God for free, and David famously replies: “No, I insist on buying it, for I will not present burnt offerings to the Lord my God that have cost me nothing.” So David paid him fifty pieces of silver for the threshing floor and the oxen. (2 Samuel 24:24)

May we have the same heart and perspective in our worship of God–whether in song, in service to others, or in our daily lives lived for Christ. May we be determined to make an offering to the Lord, not one that costs us nothing, but one that does; because He is worthy of everything.

PRAYER (Pray this out loud)

Lord, I pray my worship would honor You. Whether it be in song, or service to others, or in little moments in days, may my worship be a pleasing sacrifice to You. Help me to remember that my entire life is for You, and that no matter the cost, You are worthy and deserving of it all. Amen.

“Worship should absolutely be costly because it’s not an atmosphere for us, it’s an offering from us.”
