The Greatest Competitor to Devotion

Never let your love for the gift outgrow your love for the Giver.

It can be easy to put all of our attention on what we are called to do that we forget about the one who has called us in the process.

Take a moment and consider if you’ve ever done this before…

SELAH (Pause, think, reflect)

Oswald Chambers once wrote, “One of the greatest competitors of devotion to Jesus is service for Him.”

This year, let’s work at managing the tension between loving what we get to do for God–enjoying the gifts He’s given–while still wholeheartedly seeking, serving, and loving Him first and foremost.

PRAYER (Pray this out loud)

Lord, thank You for the gifts You have placed in my life. Thank You for opportunities and tangible ways to outwork my calling to You. Help me remember that these gifts are ultimately for You. Help my love for You always outgrow my love for anything else, even the things I do for You. Amen.

“Never let your love for the gift outgrow your love for the Giver.”
