The Buzzword “Calling”

Calling can be a bit of a buzzword, can’t it?

In all our desire to do things for God, to discover our God-given purpose and live it out, no matter how important, sometimes we can lose sight that true biblical calling starts and ends with God.

Philippians 3:8 (NIV) says, “I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.”

Do you find yourself sometimes putting what you do for God in front of your devotion to God?

SELAH (Pause, think, reflect)

Make no mistake, doing the things that God has called us to do is vital, but we must recognize that even these are secondary to living a life that seeks Jesus first.

Everything we do for God should cause us to draw closer to Him. He is the true prize and the One who is central to our faith.

PRAYER (Pray this out loud)

Lord, thank You for the reminder that above anything I could ever do, You first call me to know You. When I forget this, remind me that You, Jesus, are the prize of my faith. I know that my true calling starts and ends with You, so help me to live this out daily. Compared to the privilege of knowing and living for Christ, everything else is a loss. Amen.

“True biblical calling starts and ends with God.”
